Confederate Gen. Robert E. Rodes, who commanded a brigade in the Peninsular Campaign (of May-June 1862), sends a report of Union movements to his commander Jubal A. Early. Rodes saw evidence that the Union battery was still occupied, the sharpshooters annoying, and he welcomed the regiment's arrival to the site he designated.
